Engineering Assistant

Engineering Assistant (Male Candidate)

 

Lanka Education and Research Network (LEARN) is the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Sri Lanka. A National Research and Education Network (NREN) is a specialized Internet Service Provider (ISP) dedicated to support the needs of the research and education communities within a country, and it is distinguished by support for a high-speed backbone network, often offering dedicated channels for individual research projects, in addition to providing many other services.

 

LEARN currently interconnects the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Ministry of Education, all the UGC funded State Universities, many public universities under other ministries, and several national research institutions, including the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies.

 

Applications are hereby invited from citizens of Sri Lanka for the Engineering Assistant position (male candidate) in our office located at the University of Peradeniya. This position will initially be offered as a one-year Contract basis position with the possibility of permanency based on performance.

 

The Engineering Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to the end users of LEARN member institutions for the use of applications used in online education. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • ability to visit remote LEARN member institutes located around the country; not every day but once or twice a month.

  • ability to work after normal working hours when required and in case of critical requirement

  • ability to work remotely from home in certain situations

  • willingness to stay for a long time with the organization

  • ability to teach/share knowledge and experience

  • experience with Office365, GSuite

  • experience with video conferencing/collaboration platforms (Zoom, WebEx, Meet, Teams, etc)

  • experience with media service platforms (eg. YouTube, Facebook)

  • experience in LMS (Moodle)

  • ability of working on Windows/Mac OSX/Linux

  • basic knowledge of networking (IPv4, IPv6) and its services (web, DNS, email, etc)

  • experience in offline office applications (MS Office / LibreOffice / OpenOffice)

  • any other new applications LEARN introduced to the community

  • ability to guide users how to effectively use above application for educational use


Qualification and Experience:

 

  • HND or Equivalent in Computer Science/ Networking/ Information Technology

and

  • 3 years of proven experience (after the above qualification received)

 


 

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary Scale: Rs. 55,000 – 8 x 4,400 – Rs. 90,200 p.m. (increment step with experience)

  • Cost of living allowance of Rs. 7,800/= and other government approved allowances

  • Both local and overseas trainings/workshops

  • Financial support to obtain necessary certification and for professional development
